The Bento

Introducing the Bento by the No Nonsense Housing Company.

The Bento Tiny House on Wheels is as complex and complete as its namesake Japanese Bento Box. Just as the Bento Box thoughtfully compacts a complete meal into an elegantly portable container, the Bento Tiny House encapsulates the essence of a full-fledged home within its compact, mobile structure. The uniqueness of its design has been recognized to such an extent that it has been granted a highly uncommon U.S. patent (No. 11,660,998), underscoring its innovative approach to mobile living.

  1. The design is based on the requirements of the National Residential Building Code, Appendix Q, for tiny houses.
  2. It is certified by the U.S. Department of Motor Vehicles nationally. Thus, it can be parked on any parking lot.
  3. It can be connected to utilities at an RV park, at a conventional house, or in a mobile home community.
  4. There is nothing like it, even at twice the size and thrice the price. It is fully and comfortably equipped with:
    • A full-size stand-up bathroom with a five-foot walk-in shower.
    • A stand-up bedroom with a full-size queen bed.
    • Sixteen linear feet of kitchen, including dishwasher.
    • A combined clothing washer and dryer.
    • Seating for five for dining that allows a view of a large screen in a double-height space.
    • A large utility closet.
    • A full-size residential air conditioner.
    • A living room that converts to an additional bed.
    • A hitch that incorporates a folding table seating four and a removable awning.
  5. The Bento stands out as a select tiny house distinctly designed for urban living. Its window placement ensures an interior that is exceptionally private and secure, addressing common concerns around visibility and safety. Unlike many tiny houses featuring large glass doors that necessitate constant curtain closure—designs more suited to secluded, natural settings—the Bento is engineered with the urban landscape in mind, embracing the bustling street scene while maintaining an interior sanctuary.

Awarded the Urban Guild Prize for Innovation, this unit was designed by DPZ CoDesign, the designers of Seaside. It was a model unit at the International Builder’s Show in Las Vegas in 2020 and was visited by tens of thousands. Production in California the same year was halted due to the COVID pandemic. It is now resuming in the U.S. and Canada.
